Benedict Cumberbatch’s ALS/MND Ice Bucket Challenge

I’ll be the first to say I want to have the clock Benedict Cumberbatch uses, because in his world, he was “a day late” in accepting the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness for ALS/MND (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Let’s check that timeline:

One of the actors who challenged Benedict, Tom Hiddleston, posted his challenge on August 18 on WhoSay:

While Benedict didn’t take as long as, say, Helena Bonham Carter, who posted her acceptance – and fellow challenge to Harvey Weinsten – TODAY, Aug. 24:

Cumberbatch’s clock seemed to move a bit more slowly than ours.

At first, the fandom waited patiently when word came on Twitter on Aug. 19 from @AnglophileTV:

On the 20th,  Sunny March Ltd. partner and producer, Adam Ackland, provided an update:

followed by a special announcement the following day, Aug. 21:

Thankfully, the MND Association came to the rescue on August 22 (the longest “one day late” as Benedict described it below)

In the days that followed, the dissection of the Benedict Cumberbatch #IceBucketChallenge developed:

In his video, Benedict challenged Harvey Weinstein, Kylie Minogue and Lewis Hamilton (perhaps one without the racing suit on this time). So far, Kylie is the only one to accept, with a series of Tweets that were compiled into a video currently on YouTube.

Perhaps Harvey has the time-delay tactics employed by Benedict, but only time will tell. We shall see. While we wait – and review Benedict’s original video (3.2 million views as of this writing), we can continue to support ALS/MND research, a cause Benedict has supported for many years (as we reported earlier). Your donation options include: http://www.alsa.org/fight-als/ice-bucket-challenge.html or http://www.mndassociation.org/news-and-events/Latest+News/join-in-and-take-the-ice-bucket-challenge-today. MND also offers a free t-shirt to those in the UK.

Whether your ice bucket challenge involvement is observing, donating or participating, thanks for taking time to think about others who are just like us on the inside, yet unable to do so much we take for granted. If we take a moment to be grateful for what we have, it won’t be time wasted.
