About

We all have people to look up to. People we pay attention to, people that inspire us. Not because we think that they are better or more capable than us, but because they open our eyes to new exciting possibilities, because they show us things we might not have come across ourselves. When one of my best friends suggests I listen to a certain band I know I will most probably end up liking that new discovery. When my favourite Youtube beauty guru recommends a certain blush I will probably check it out. To me, life is a journey of discovery and I never get tired of being confronted with new opinions, books, philosophies or people. Over the last year or so I have added Benedict Cumberbatch to one of the people I like to pay attention to. Because what he says and what he shares with us is interesting and often inspiring. On Twitter, I have encountered other people who feel the same way. Yes, we are united by our admiration for Benedict Cumberbatch but we do not put the man on a pedestal. No, we have simply decided that a lot of Benedict’s work and many of the things that he has mentioned in the past have served as excellent jumping-off points for new discoveries and explorations. I know that right now, many of us are reading up on 19th century explorers, brilliant code breakers and Shakespeare’s most famous work. We are united in our collective excitement for an upcoming play and share a new found love for the radio play. And yes, our enthusiasm has been sparked by a British actor. Fandom can broaden horizons, educate, unite strangers from all over the world and help (re)discover a love for the arts. And there’s no shame in that. (journalists take note!)

The World According to Benedict is a collaboration from and for the fans of Benedict Cumberbatch, which aims at sharing some of the discoveries we have made thanks to this extraordinary man. We are looking forward to many exciting and enlightening articles and discussions from and with one of the most wonderful and intelligent fandoms in existence. Welcome to The World According to Benedict. I hope you enjoy your journey of exploration.
